While photographing our clients, we take time to connect with them. We learn who they are and what makes their relationships tick, and through this process they are able to open up in front of our cameras. You would think that we would be able to do the same for ourselves, but Shaun and I are the definition of “awkward” when it comes to having our portraits taken. As a result we haven’t done it in ages, and have very few pictures of us together even though we have been together for nearly 7 years. This past Saturday, we decided to remedy the situation. We packed up our trusty old tripod, and headed out with the goal of getting at least one good shot! We weren’t any less awkward and most of what we took went straight to the trash can, but I am so glad we did it.
Photographers are notorious for staying behind the camera and rarely taking any pictures of themselves. From this day forward, we are pledging to turn the cameras onto ourselves more often and hope that you will too. You don’t need a fancy camera, you just need any camera. These days there are no excuses – just whip out your cell phone if it’s all you have, but be sure to hire a professional that you love for important life events. Your family isn’t going to care if you didn’t loose the last 10 lbs or if your hair isn’t perfect, but they will always cherish a picture of you. Part of me is sad that we don’t have more photos to document our history, but more than anything I’m just excited to start photographing our future!
So, here it is: our cheesy, self-timer, family portrait. It’s certainly not the best picture in the world, but I love it! By the way, check out how well Quito did! He’s so darn adorable
